I have a variety of newborn sessions to suit your requirements.

You can choose from all of the styles I offer - a variety of props, posed and unposed styles.

We will work together to create the images you dream of.

You decide which package you want to buy after you see your photos, this gives you the peace of mind to know you have a choice.

You can choose from a digital package, fine art prints, wall art and keepsake boxes, there are plenty of samples in my studio so you can hold and touch them.

When should I book?

I always suggest that people book at the same time as they start telling work colleagues and acquaintances. Around 3-4 months into your pregnancy.

That way we can guarantee a booking.

That's not to say I can't fit you in if you call 2 days after baby arrives, sometimes I can, but booking early means I definitely can, you have been prioritised and will get your session within 2 weeks of baby's arrival (or later if you prefer).

In order to reserve a date, you will complete some paperwork and pay a session fee of $150. The session fee does not include any digital files or prints. It covers my time on session day.

If we haven't already, the easiest way is for me to email or call you with a few dates and once we find a date, booking is 100% online and takes just a few minutes.

As you pull out your calendar, here are a few things to consider:

  • The studio is at Taieri Mouth, this is a pleasant 30 minute drive from Dunedin or Balclutha. We can do in studio and outdoor shots during your session.

  • All shoots take place at the studio. Due to the vagaries of the weather, between April and October Maternity shoots take place at the studio - and if the weather is ok we can shoot at the beach, bush, forestry, lake - which are all within a 5-10 minute drive of the studio.

  • Weekend dates are limited and popular, they do not incur an extra charge, but do book out quickly, so if a weekend date is important to you please book as early as possible.

  • Newborn sessions are often shot in the first 4-14 days after birth, but I am happy to work in a newborn style until 6-8 weeks. I prefer to prioritise your family's  wellbeing over an insistence on bringing baby in before they are 2 weeks old. You decide what is best for yourselves and your baby.

  • I book out your due date as your placeholder session date, then you ket me know when baby arrives and we organise a proper session date. This ensures that I do not over book newborns, so that you can get your session as soon as it suits you.

  • If you have a particular date or holiday by which you need prints or gifts (Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, etc.), be sure to book a date at least one month in advance of that date to ensure sufficient processing and printing time.

  • Babies and young children are almost universally at their very best first thing in the morning, which is why my newborn and baby sessions take place at 10 am. Maternity sessions can take place during the day (studio) or in the late afternoon/early evening... usually around 1.5 hours before sunset, when we get that beautiful light.

  • Newborn photography is my specialty - a standard newborn session runs between 2-3 hours depending on baby. You have a choice of style - props and posed or relaxed lifestyle - we will talk about that before your session.

  • $150 is due on booking to confirm your session . You choose your collection after you have seen your photos. The session fee will be refunded if you do not like a single image.

  • The session fee covers:

  • - planning and set up

  • - the session

  • - use of props and clothing

  • - editing and post production

  • Payment can be made by bank transfer, credit card online, interest free time payment or GenoaPay.

Once we've decided on a time and date and officially put your session on the books, I'll send you a getting ready guide that will walk you through everything from choosing outfits to strategies for getting children to cooperate.

That guide has been created and refined over years of experience, so it typically answers 90% of the questions that come up, but I'm always happy to set up a time to chat if you want additional help.

A few days before our session is scheduled, I'll reach out to confirm our time and location... at that point, if the forecast is questionable or someone seems to be coming down with a bug, we can talk about our rescheduling options. Otherwise, that's the perfect time to ask any last minute questions or let me know if you've come up with a fun idea we haven't discussed.

The day of the session, please block off 2 hours (3  hours for a newborn). Typically we're done within 45 minutes for family, maternity and older babies and 2 hours or so for newborn , but I don't charge by the hour, so if there's some kind of wardrobe malfunction or child meltdown, I like to stay flexible.

If a parent has to leave for an important meeting but the rest of the family is still available, that's fine... just let me know ahead of time so I can focus on getting that parent in the frame while they're still available.

Finally, take a breath and relax... I promise to give the grown-ups (and kids) breaks throughout the session as needed, and to make it as painless as possible for everyone involved.

Within just a couple of weeks of your session, you'll receive an email from me letting you know that the slideshow of your photos is ready.

After that, you'll have a week to select the specific digital files and print items you wish to purchase. If you're like me and like to see and feel things like frames, box fabrics and paper types in person, I have samples of all the physical products I offer at my studio, so you can touch them and understand their qualities.

What you're going to do with your images is perhaps the most important aspect to consider when you're planning for a photo session, but it's all too often the aspect that's overlooked... all that time and money invested deserve a better return than photos gathering dust on a hard drive somewhere.

*You'll never get the same feeling looking at your photos on a screen as you will seeing them on your walls.
