Information

When should I book?

I always suggest that people book at the same time as they start telling work colleagues and acquaintances that you are expecting a baby, around 3-4 months into your pregnancy.

That way we can guarantee a booking.

That's not to say I can't fit you in if you call 2 days after baby arrives, sometimes I can, but booking early means I definitely can, you have been prioritised and will get your session within 2 weeks of baby's arrival (or later if you prefer).

Booking

In order to reserve a date, you will complete some paperwork and pay a session fee of $200.

If we haven't already, the easiest way is for me to email or call you with a few dates and once we find a date, booking is 100% online and takes just a few minutes.

An offer of a date is not a confirmation of a date until the session fee has been paid.

Offers of date have a 24 hour lifespan.

As you pull out your calendar, here are a few things to consider:

  • The studio is at Taieri Mouth, this is a pleasant 30-40 minute drive from Dunedin or Balclutha. We can do in studio and outdoor shots during your session.

  • Most shoots take place at the studio. I can shoot a natural newborn session (neutral wrap and backdrop, no props) in your home. If you are based further than Balclutha or Dunedin city there will be additional mileage costs.

  • Weekend dates are limited and popular, they do not incur an extra charge, but do book out quickly, so if a weekend date is important to you please book as early as possible.

Session information

  • Newborn sessions are often shot in the first 4-14 days after birth, but I am happy to work in a newborn style until 6-8 weeks. I prefer to prioritise your family's  wellbeing over an insistence on bringing baby in before they are 2 weeks old. You decide what is best for yourselves and your baby.

  • You do not HAVE to include props in your session, I can do a natural newborn shoot with parents and baby, no props, no posing. This is your session, you choose, if you want all props and no beanbag thats good too!

  • We have plenty of beautiful areas on the garden where we can do outdoor photos with baby if that is something you would like. I take plenty of precautions to ensure baby's safety.

  • I book out your due date as your placeholder session date, then you ket me know when baby arrives and we organise a proper session date. This ensures that I do not over book newborns, so that you can get your session as soon as it suits you.

  • If you have a particular date or holiday by which you need prints or gifts (Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, etc.), be sure to book a date at least one month in advance of that date to ensure sufficient processing and printing time.

  • Babies and young children are almost universally at their very best first thing in the morning, which is why my newborn and baby sessions take place at 10 am. Maternity sessions can take place during the day (studio) or in the late afternoon/early evening... usually around 1.5 hours before sunset, when we get that beautiful light.

  • Newborn photography is my specialty - a standard newborn session runs between 2-3 hours depending on baby. You have a choice of style - props and posed or relaxed lifestyle - we will talk about that before your session.

Payment

  • $200 is due on booking to confirm your session.

  • The session fee covers:

  • - planning and set up

  • - the session

  • - use of props and clothing

  • - editing and post production

  • Payment can be made by bank transfer, credit card, or interest free time payment split over up to 10 payments (just ask and I can set this up for you).
